Everything you need to know about Concrete - Concrete Joints

Immediately after finishing concrete, the slab should be jointed or cut.  This is done to control the concretes cracking tendency caused by shrinkage, drying out or temperature changes.  These contraction or control joints reduce the slab thickness and create a weakened section that will induce the cracking to occur at that location.

On large, flat concrete surfaces you can benefit using one of our Concrete Floor Saws with a Diamond Blade to cut your control joints.  If your cutting relatively green concrete a Green Concrete or Asphalt Blade will provide the best life.  If cutting Cured Concrete than one of our Cured Concrete Diamond Blades will provide the best life.  Joints are usually cut to 1/4 the thickness of the slab.
